The ingredients needed to make Spinach Dal:
  1. Make ready 1 bunch Spinach leaves finely chopped
  2. Prepare 1 Cup tuar dal
  3. Take 2 big onions finely chopped

  5. Take 2 tomatoes finely chopped
  6. Get 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  7. Get 1 tsp red chilli powder

The cumin seeds will start to darken and the mustard seeds may start to pop when it's time to add broth. Add some chopped spinach to the infused butter, cook until wilted, and stir it all into the dal. This filling recipe makes a generous amount, so be sure to steam plenty of rice for leftovers. What to buy: This dal is made with yellow split peas (called channa dal), but you can substitute other varieties like red or green lentils or split chickpeas.

Steps to make Spinach Dal:
  1. Firstly, thoroughly wash and chop all the veggies - spinach leaves, tomatoes, onions and ginger garlic green chillis and keep aside.
  2. Then heat oil in a pressure cooker, add cumin seeds let it crackle now add chopped ginger garlic green chilli paste, saute for a minute, add chopped onions and saute till onions turn golden brown, now add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder and red chili powder, saute till tomatoes are soft and mushy and oil separates from sides.
  3. Now add chopped Spinach leaves and saute for 2-3 mins.
  4. Finally add washed toor dal and salt. Cover the lid of the pressure cooker and take 6 whistles.
  5. While serving add clarified butter or ghee from above.
  6. Garma garam tasty, healthy Spinach Dal is ready to serve with steamed rice.
