Instructions to make Spinach Appe:
  1. In a mixing bowl, add semolina and curd, whisk it well and keep aside for 5-10min (you will see the semolina has puffed up)
  2. Wash palak leaves, add in to mixer grinder, along with green chillies and ginger and make a smooth puree/paste of it.
  3. Now add palak puree/paste in semolina and mix well.
  4. Heat 1 tsp ghee,add cumin seeds and chopped onions and saute till translucent.
  5. Add the tempering to the mixture and stir.
  6. Add some water and bring it to medium consistency and add salt accordingly. Add fruit salt and give a stir in one direction.
  7. Heat a appe patra/mould and grease each cavity/groove with ghee and pour/fill the mixture in each grooves.
  8. Add some drops of ghee very little on the upper layer of the mixture and cover with a steam releasing lid.
  9. Let it cook for 2-3minutes. As the upper layer has dried up.(you can see the lid has become steam clear.(this is the sign to flip the appe from the other side and cook) for more 1-2minutes with lid closed.
  10. Spinach/palak appe's are ready to eat. Serve the appe with chutney or sauce or have it as it is.
