The sambar is cooked in a tangy tamarind base flavoured with homemade sambar powder. Thandu Keerai sambar is a favourite at home with my children and a variation from the regular dals.
Banana Spinach sambhar is one of the most popular of recent trending meals in the world. It’s simple, it’s quick, it tastes yummy. It is enjoyed by millions every day. They are fine and they look fantastic. Banana Spinach sambhar is something that I’ve loved my whole life.
To get started with this particular recipe, we have to prepare a few ingredients. You can cook banana spinach sambhar using 19 ingredients and 17 steps. Here is how you cook it.
The ingredients needed to make Banana Spinach sambhar:
- Take 25 leaves Spinach
- Make ready 1 raw banana
- Take 1 spoon coriander seeds
- Make ready 1/2 spoon urad dal
- Get 1/2 spoon chana dal
- Take 5 byadigi chillies
- Take 3 pinches asafoetida
- Get 4 pinches Turmeric powder
- Prepare 10 fenugreek seeds
- Get 1/4 spoon jeera seeds
- Prepare 1 small pease Jaggery
- Prepare to taste Salt
- Take 1/2 lemon sizeTamarind
- Get 3 spoons Coconut oil
- Make ready 1/2 spoon mustard
- Take Few Curry leaves
- Prepare Few coriander leaves (optional)
- Take 1 small cup cooked dal
- Take 1 cup fresh coconut
Which vegetables can be added to it? Carrots, eggplant, drumsticks, yellow pumpkin, shallots, yellow cucumber, radish, tomatoes, okra, bottle gourd, ash gourd, snake gourd, spinach, amaranth leaves, Banana stem, plantain, ivy gourd and french beans are some of the vegetables which are traditionally added in the sambar. Followers Add tamarind pulp along with readymade sambhar powder, if using. Boil till quantity reduces by half.
Steps to make Banana Spinach sambhar:
- Assemble all the Ingredients
- Heat a pan, add 2 spoons coconut oil, add fenugreek seeds, urad dal and chana dal. Little fry them.
- Add coriander seeds and byadigi chillies. Mix and little fry them
- Add jeera seeds, turmeric powder, asafoetida and mix.
- Add curry leaves and mix.
- Finally add grated coconut and mix. Switch off the flame.
- Cool the mixture,and grind into paste by adding water.
- Add tamarind and grind them
- Grinded masala ready.
- Add salt
- Add boiled dal and mix well.
- Add grinded masala
- Add small piece Jaggery,and check for salt and adjust.
- Heat coconut oil mustard, red chilli,when mustard splutters, and add curry leaves
- Pour over the prepared sambar. And switch off the flame.
- Finally add little coriander leaves.
- Serve with hot rice
Add tomatoes, spinach, dal and ground sambhar powder. Add a cupr or so of the drained Spinach water. A basic sambar recipe will have a mix or one or two types of vegetables along with lentils, tamarind, sambar powder and a few spices. Wash , peel the skin and chop the raw banana in circles and soak in water. ( to avoid color change) In a vessel, cover cook the raw banana along with salt , a piece of tamarind, sambar powder , turmeric powder , salt with required water. Cut the stalks very finely (see detailed banana stem cutting steps here) and cook in pressure cooker for two whistles with salt and turmeric powder.
