Steamed Siomai
Steamed Siomai

Hello everybody, it’s me, Dave, welcome to my recipe site. Today, I’m gonna show you how to make a special dish, steamed siomai. One of my favorites. This time, I’m gonna make it a bit unique. This is gonna smell and look delicious.

Steamed Siomai is one of the most popular of recent trending foods in the world. It is appreciated by millions daily. It is simple, it is quick, it tastes yummy. Steamed Siomai is something that I have loved my entire life. They are nice and they look fantastic.

Some of the traditional foods to serve are whole fish, chicken, duck, barbecue pork, vegetables and steamed dumplings (siomai). Siomai is a popular dim sum dish which consists of ground pork or shrimp or both, carrots, dried mushrooms, green onions and flavored with soy sauce, Chinese wine, salt, pepper and sesame oil. Shumai is a Cantonese style dumpling made of pork, shrimp, and shiitake mushrooms.

To begin with this particular recipe, we must prepare a few components. You can cook steamed siomai using 10 ingredients and 6 steps. Here is how you cook that.

The ingredients needed to make Steamed Siomai:
  1. Prepare 1/4 kg ground pork
  2. Prepare 1/4 kg shrimp
  3. Take 1/4 cup diced carrots
  4. Get Half a bulb onion
  5. Make ready 2 cloves garlic
  6. Make ready 3 tbsp Sesame oil
  7. Get Oyster sauce
  8. Get Salt
  9. Prepare Pepper
  10. Prepare Siomai wrapper

Siomai or steamed pork dumpling is Chinese in origin. My version has a slight twist: the exchange of rice in place of wonton wrapper. The reason for this exchange is that sometimes the wonton wrapper gets soggy and looks wilted; whereas rice makes the Siomai look always fresh. Siu Mai is the first thing you grab off the trolleys when you descend upon your favourite Yum Cha.

Steps to make Steamed Siomai:
  1. Mince the carrots, onions and garlic. The finely chop the better.
  2. In a bowl, mix all the vegetable, ground pork and shrimp. Then add all seasoning and sesame oil. Make sure to mix evenly.
  3. Taste test your mix by frying one teaspoon on a pan with oil. Adjust seasoning according to your taste.
  4. Once satisfied with the taste test, start wrapping the meat with the siomai wrapper. (check out another of my recipe titled "How to fold a Siomai") The amount of meat should not overflow the wrapper when sealed. A good looking siomai has a rose bulb pattern. Practice makes perfect.
  5. Brush a small amount of cooking oil on your steaming tray to prevent the siomai from sticking. Arrange the siomai so that they wont stick together.
  6. Steam for 20-30 minutes per batch or until the meat is cooked and the wrapper tender. Serve hot with some garlic sauce on the sides.

And now you can get your Siu Mai fix on demand! These Chinese steamed dumplings are filled with a classic pork and prawn filling. Also see Japanese Shumai (smaller, topped with peas!) Siomai is commonly steamed, but it can also be fried. What is good in this recipe? You can prepare it in advance and store it for future use.
