  1. Get 2 cans of light or dark red kidney beans
  2. Take 1 can butter beans
  3. Make ready 1 can capellini beans
  4. Take 1 can mild chili beans
  5. Get 1 can northern beans
  6. Make ready 2 cans of tomato sauce
  7. Get 1 large onion, diced
  8. Get 1 can diced tomatoes or leave this out
  9. Make ready 2 packets of taco seasoning
  10. Take 6 to 8 tablespoons of chili powder ( you can add more or less )
  11. Prepare 5 tsp garlic powder ( you can add more or less or even use 2 or 3 cloves of garlic , minced or diced fine )
  12. Make ready 4 tsp onion powder ( I like extra onion flavor, but you can omit this )
  13. Prepare 1 red pepper flakes , red pepper and / or black pepper ( optional )
  14. Prepare 1 block ( 8 ounce ) cheese . we use cheddar . shredded ( optional )
  15. Take 1 small purple / red onion ( optional )

Saute onion,with pepper in olive oil. Garnish with cheese and sour cream. You can also serve with rice and chips and guac. Here is a make-ahead chili that both meat lovers and vegetarians will love: It packs in all the classic flavors you want and is loaded with beans that give the dish a rich, almost meaty character.

Instructions to make Taisen's 5 bean chili:
  1. Open all cans of beans. Drain juices. Add to crock pot
  2. Add in onion
  3. Add seasonings. Chili powder, onion powder, taco seasoning. Mix well. Red and black pepper if using. (as you can see, I add a lot of spice because my family loves chili to be extra spicy) stir well
  4. Add in the tomatoes and tomato sauce. Stir. Set crock pot on high for 4 to 6 hours. Stir every hour if your crock pot is like mine. Mine gets over hot so a lot of times I use medium heat longer.
  5. Before serving, shred the block cheese and dice onion as a topping. If making cornbread do this now or use butter bread.
  6. Serve with butter bread, cornbread or salad. Enjoy

Serving this chili the next day lets flavors meld–if the beans soak up a lot of liquid overnight, you can add more vegetable broth or even water to thin out the stew. Rinse beans and replace with fresh water. In a large skillet, brown hamburger, onions, and bell peppers. Place them in a large stock pot and add beans.
