The ingredients needed to make Idli sambar:
- Make ready For idli-
- Make ready 200 gm rava
- Take as needed Curd
- Take 1 tsp salt
- Take 1 pouch eno
- Get 1/2 tsp oil
- Get For sambar-
- Make ready 20 shallots chopped
- Take 1 tomato chopped
- Get 1 bell pepper cubed
- Get 3 tablespoons thick tamarind juice
- Prepare 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- Take 10 curry leaves
- Get 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- Take to taste Salt
- Take 2 cup water
- Make ready For masala-
- Prepare 1/4 cup pigeon peas
- Get 3 teaspoons coriander seeds
- Get 1/2 teaspoon black peppercorns
- Take 1/8 teaspoon methi seeds
- Make ready 4-6 dried red chilies
- Prepare 1 tablespoon chana dal
- Take 2 teaspoons oil
Idli Sambar are a typical South Indian breakfast that has become popular across the globe for it's soft spongy Idlis and lipsmackingly delicious Sambar. Idli Sambar is a complete food in itself as it contains all the essential nutrients, minerals and vitamins that are essential for your overall health. Different vegetables like beans, carrot, drumstick, etc. present in the sambar provide enough fiber that aides your digestive health. Moreover, idlis are steamed and sambar contains very little.
Steps to make Idli sambar:
- Heat 2 teaspoons oil in a pressure cooker. Once the oil is hot fry 3 teaspoons coriander seeds, 1/2 teaspoon black peppercorns, 1/8 teaspoon methi seeds, 1 tablespoon chanadal, 4-6 dried red chilies. Fry till golden brown. Now add 1/4 cup toor dal and saute for 2 minutes. Let cool for 5 minutes. Reserve the oil in the same cooker.
- Once cooled down, grind the fried ingredients into a thick paste. Add just enough water to make a paste.
- Now heat the reserved oil again i the same cooker. temper with mustard seeds and curry leaves. Add shallots, chopped tomatoes and chopped bell peppers. Saute for 2 minutes. Add turmeric powder and saute well. Add the tamarind extract and mix well.
- Add the ground masala and mix thoroughly. Add 2 cups water and required salt. Mix well and close the cooker. pressure cook for 10 minutes or up to 4 whistles. Once the pressure is released check the consistency of sambar. If it is too thick for your liking add 1/4-1/2 cup water and bring to a boil. Add cilantro leaves and serve sambar with rice or idli.
- For idli- take a boil mix all ingredients (rava,salt,curd)
- And at the end add eno powder mix it. In idli stand brush out oil. And bake for 5-6 mint. Your idli is ready.
