Wheat flour sweet appam with stepwise pictures and video. Mittu is fond of instant neiappam so I make it often sometimes even for her snackbox for her school. During this lock down sometimes when we crave for something to eat after dinner, I make this nei appam and once I forgot to add cooking.

The ingredients needed to make Sweet Potato Appam:
  1. Make ready sweet potato (steam cooked, peeled, and mashed}
  2. Prepare rice flour
  3. Take corn starch
  4. Make ready Brown sugar
  5. Make ready Walnut (powdered)
  6. Make ready Pistachio (powdered)
  7. Take Nutmeg,freshly grated
  8. Get Athimadhuram (Liquorice)
  9. Get salt
  10. Make ready baking soda

If left, it absorbs more moisture. Cooking on low flame is a must. Appam pan should be non-stick one. This Instant Sweet Appam using wheat flour is my recent try, it tasted soo good that I am going to make this often may be I will choose the option of using kuzhipaniyaram pan like here.

Instructions to make Sweet Potato Appam:
  1. Steam cook two large sweet potatoes in a pressure cooker. Peel and mash with a wooden spoon.
  2. Mix the ingredients (except ghee) in a bowl. Make small balls. Let it sit at room temperature-about 10 minutes. Grease the Kuzhi appam maker or dollar pancake maker with ghee
  3. Place balls, one in each mould (kuzhi), drizzle one tsp ghee over each ball, cover and cook over low heat- about 10 minutes. Turn over, cook covered over low heat-about 10 minutes. Remove and serve hot. You may glaze the balls with a few drops of honey

I've heard from my neighbour that they make this appam for Karthigai Deepam so thought this would be a timely post :)As I have already posted the low fat version of wheat flour appam I tried deep frying them. This sweet appam is very easy to make and I could not wait to share this recipe, for this festive season. It needs no soaking or grinding of rice to a smooth paste. As I have not added cooking soda or baking powder or banana, this appam will not be spongy. Take the thin coconut milk in a pan (or a pressure cooker) and add the potatoes, onion, green chilies and ginger into it.
