Being from Australia, cottage pie is a favourite when it comes to comfort food for the family. Overall, this recipe is pretty close to the orignial. Not sure why you would want to add cinnamon to a traditional cottage pie.

  2. Get 1 onion
  3. Get 1 clove garlic
  4. Prepare 3 carrots, sliced
  5. Prepare 250 g mushrooms, sliced

  7. Make ready 2 cans water
  8. Prepare 500 g beef mince
  9. Prepare 2 tbsp tomato purée
  10. Prepare 1 beef stock cube

  13. Make ready Mash
  14. Take 500 g Potatoes (or however many needed to cover top with mash)
  15. Make ready 25 g butter
  16. Get Milk

I followed the recipe for everything except the green peas coz I do not have them on hand. I use a bigger onion instead. I forgot to dot extra butter on top but it still came out crisp with adequately brown. There are many variations of the recipe, but the defining ingredients include minced or ground beef with onions (and sometimes other vegetables) in.

Steps to make Cottage pie:
  1. Fry the onions and garlic for 2min, add the carrots, put on the lid and sweet for 5min
  2. Once swerved, add the mushrooms and fry for a few minutes
  3. Add mince and brown
  4. Add stock cube, purée, tomatoes, water, herbs and pepper. Bring to the boil and simmer for 50min
  5. Pre heat oven to 200oC
  6. While the mince is simmering, peal the potatoes, cut into equal chunks and boil for 20mins
  7. When the potatoes have boiled, mash them with butter and milk.
  8. When both the mince and mash are ready but mince in the bottom of dish and put mash on top. Make pattern with fork on top in the mash. Put in oven for 20min

Cottage pie is a meat pie that is topped with mashed potatoes and baked in the oven. Now, cottage pie and shepherd's pie differ only in the type of ground meat they are made with. This is a meat and carb heavy dish, so it goes really well with fresh side salads like a Rocket Salad with Balsamic Dressing, or a Garden Salad with French or Italian Dressing. I recently served it with this Carrot Salad with a Honey Dijon Dressing which was a hit!. For a cosy meal on a cold winter night, try it with a side of Glazed Roasted Carrots and Sautéed.
