Today I have prepared Lauki Paratha recipe also known as Doodhi or Bottlegourd Paratha. Lauki paratha recipe - Paratha made using bottle gourd, methi leaves, mild spice powders and whole wheat flour. I use bottle gourd to make curry, kootu, pappu, halwa and few other dishes.

  1. Take 1 cup - grated lauki
  2. Prepare 2 cup - wheat flour
  3. Get 1 tbsp - garlic, ginger chilli paste

  5. Make ready 1 tsp - dhaniya powder(coriander seed powder)
  6. Take 1/2 tsp - cumin powder
  7. Take 1 tsp - salt
  8. Prepare as required Oil
  9. Take 1 tsp - carrom seeds
  10. Prepare 1/4 tsp - turmeric powder

Lauki happens to be one of those veggies that I often use in the summers. Lauki is also called as bottle gourd, opo squash and long melon in english. Lauki also known as bottle gourd, sorakkai used to be one of my favorite in childhood days.

Steps to make Lauki paratha (bottle gourd):
  1. Put all the above ingredients with 1 1/2 tsp oil in a food processor. Moisture from the lauki helps to bind the flour. If needed can add 1 or 2 tbs of water.
  2. Knead it well. The dough is ready. Set a side for 15 minutes.
  3. Divide the dough into equal size portion and make a lemon size ball.
  4. Dust the rolling board with the flour and make a small round shape like puri. Apply some oil and fold it. Again dust the rolling board with flour and roll it evenly.
  5. It has to be thicker than roti. Heat the tava on a medium-low flame and place the paratha on hot tava.
  6. When one side is partly cooked then flip it. Spread some oil on the partly cooked side. Again flip the paratha and apply some oil over it. Cook well on both sides.
  7. Remove from the tava. Serve hot with curd, raita or pickle.

Only I like the sorakkai kootu my mom makes. Otherwise I have no idea what one would do with it. But after marriage I have never made it as Vj is not a big fan of it. I usually make lauki paratha for my husband snack box. Club them along chutney, sauce or dry garlic chutney and you are set.
